“Serving Others the Southern Gentleman Way”

Throughout his career with Southern Industries Home Improvement, Walter “Davies” Merry lived a life defined by service to others. He truly earned the title “Southern Gentleman” through his unwavering optimism, his generosity of spirit, and the genuine care he showed to everyone he met.

Each year, Davies proudly led a team of volunteers to serve alongside Habitat for Humanity, helpingbuild homes and hope for families in need. Service was not something he talked about—it was something he lived. Even while courageously battling pancreatic cancer, Davies remained committed to this mission, ensuring that the Southern Industries Home Improvement team in Charleston continued to participate in the annual Habitat for Humanity build.

In his final days, Davies shared a heartfelt wish: that his passion for serving others would continue through a lasting legacy—The Davies Merry Build Project. This project exists to honor his life, his leadership, and the example he set for all of us. Through this

effort, we will continue to serve our communities the Southern Gentleman way—with humility, generosity, and a commitment to lifting others up.

Project Needs: The project’s greatest need is YOU.

CHAMPION: We are seeking at least one Champion at each location to lead the team of volunteers. The Champion will be responsible for collaborating and planning with the Habitat for Humanity affiliate. The Champion will also collaborate with the Chief People Officer as the company’s project contact.

VOLUNTEERS: We need volunteers from each location willing to participate in a build day at a Habitat for Humanity build site. Volunteers will be responsible for committing to a day of manual labor on the project. All volunteers will be taught what is required to perform the build project.
