🌞 May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month 🌞
Protect your skin. Protect your life.
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States — but it's also one of the most preventable. This month, we’re raising awareness and encouraging everyone to take proactive steps toward skin health.
🔎 Did You Know?
1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70.
Having 5 or more sunburns doubles your risk of melanoma.
When detected early, the 5-year survival rate for melanoma is 99%.
🛡️ Protect Your Skin:
Use broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) daily, even on cloudy days.
Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours and after swimming or sweating.
Wear protective clothing, wide-brimmed hats, and sunglasses.
Seek shade between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the sun's rays are strongest.
Avoid tanning beds completely.
👀 Know the Signs – Use the ABCDE Rule for Moles:
Asymmetry: One half doesn’t match the other
Border: Edges are irregular, ragged, or blurred
Color: Varied shades of brown, black, or other colors
Diameter: Larger than a pencil eraser (6mm)
Evolving: Changes in size, shape, or color
🩺 Get Evaluated:
Perform monthly self-skin exams – look for new or changing spots.
Schedule a full-body skin exam with a dermatologist once a year or more often if you're high-risk.
✅ Early detection can save lives — and your skin.
