Important Update: New South Carolina Law on Mobile Phone Use While Driving

Beginning September 1, 2025, South Carolina will enforce a new law that imposes progressive fines for mobile phone use while driving:
First offense: $100
Each additional offense: $200
Law enforcement across the state will actively target and ticket violations through the end of the year. Any use of a phone or device behind the wheel will not only result in a citation—it will also be reported as a safety violation on the driver’s record.
This law presents a serious short-term risk to driver safety and a long-term risk to our company’s insurance costs and compliance standing.
In just the past 30 days, Samsara has recorded 105 incidents of mobile phone use while driving—69 of those from locations operating in South Carolina. To reiterate, 67% of infractions are from the Charleston, Columbia, Greenville and Myrtle Beach locations. This is a clear signal that we must take action now.
Let’s protect ourselves, our team, and our company. Please remain hands-free at all times while driving. It’s not just the law—it’s the right thing to do.
