🎃 Happy Halloween 🎃

A Brief History of Halloween

Did you know that Halloween dates back over 2,000 years? It originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming spirits. Fast forward to the 8th century, and Pope Gregory III established November 1st as All Saints' Day, incorporating some of Samhain's traditions into the mix.

Fun Facts to Haunt Your Friends With

  1. The Origins of Trick-or-Treating: The tradition of trick-or-treating can be traced back to the practice of “souling” in medieval England, where children would go door to door offering prayers for the dead in exchange for food.

  2. Pumpkin Power: About 1.5 billion pounds of pumpkin are grown in the U.S. every year! The tradition of carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns started with turnips in Ireland.

  3. A Spooky Sweet Tooth: The most popular Halloween candy is… drumroll, please… Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups! (But we won’t judge if you have a soft spot for candy corn!)

  4. Costume Craze: The top three Halloween costumes for adults in 2023 are expected to be witch, pirate, and dinosaur! (No judgment if you mix them up!)
